Schloss Auel Boutique Hotel

The Auel moated castle was first mentioned in a document in 1391. In the Baroque period, the building received its current three-wing shape. It later came into the possession of Philippe de la Valette St. George, whose grandfather had already come to the Bergisches Land as an officer in the 18th century.

history

Since her marriage to Franziska von Broe, the heiress of Auel, in 1818, Auel Castle has been owned by the Barons of la Valette St. George.

The most famous offspring was the Grand Master of the Order of St. John and later the Order of Malta, Jean Parisot de la Valette. He successfully defended the island of Malta in 1565 against the attack of the Ottomans under Soliman II and founded the island's capital, La Valetta, named after him in 1566.

Weddings & Celebrate

Completely renovated in 2006, the historic part of the hotel has 20 rooms & Suites. Each one is uniquely designed, furnished with valuable antiques and magnificent fabrics. Our baroque chapel of St. Johannes Nepomuk is available for weddings and baptisms in front of the in-house altar.

It is the heart of our house. The consecrated chapel with the beautiful rococo altar and paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries belongs to the Catholic community of Lohmar.
